I was driving my year old Mercedes Sprinter across upstate NY and experienced a limited start count down. When I picked up my Sprinter in Ohio there was nothing for information on car care and how things ran- and an empty tank; that's a whole different review . I had no idea what the start count down what about; I added DEF and called the closest Mercedes dealer. I did not want to be stuck in Canada or unable to turn the car off while driving back home to MI. Cal from service suggested I bring it in because the DEF might not be the only reason for the warning light. Of course I was not happy with the possibility of this warning code snowballing into a major service charge- but I felt I had no choice and drive to the dealership. Cal came out to greet me and even though I was more or less dropping in he was very kind- I'll admit I am weary of car people looking to charge me for unnecessary goods/services- so I wasn't super nice. The DEF must have worked- I hadn't turned the car off between filling it and getting to the dealership to notice; but the count down was gone. Cal still ran through a few starts to be sure the alarm was gone and explained the reasoning behind the limited starts if the DEF runs dry and how adding it every 5-6 fill ups will avoid future issues. As I mentioned early in the review there were things about the vehicle I did not know; Cal showed me how to reset the clock, how to change a few other settings, the lightning bug for turning over the engine and the necessity for warning the engine in the winter. My wiper fluid was empty so he had that topped off. He was extremely helpful and more attentive than expected.
